Bart’s Bash 2016 launches and aims to raise awareness and funds for disabled sailing globally

With the decision being made to remove sailing from the Paralympics, the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation pledges to use the funds raised through Bart’s Bash in 2016 to help promote and develop disabled sailing globally.

Yachting New Zealand’s Volvo Sailing…Have a Go! schools programme has wrapped up its 10th season, and this season saw 3408 students given an opportunity to simply “Have a go!” at sailing, -try it out, test the waters and see if it appeals as an activity or sport.

The 2016 Secondary School Team Sailing Nationals were held at Sandspit Yacht Club, Algies Bay. Racing started on Sunday 24th April and continued until Friday 29th April. 

Liefting & Dickson win NZL Feva Nationals

Eli Liefting and Rose Dickson finished second overall at the 2015 Inaugural NZL National Feva Championship, but this year, they claimed the title with six guns from seven races. Their worst result was a second in race one which they were able to drop.

Gold and Silver for NZL Sailing Team at Sailing World Cup Hyeres

New Zealand has won gold in the 49er and silver in the Laser at the 2016 Sailing World Cup Hyeres.

Peter Burling and Blair Tuke had their medal secure before starting today’s medal race, Sam Meech’s silver came after a dramatic on water tussle.

The five-day regatta wrapped up today in France under stormy skies with a breeze that went from brisk to bust.

New Zealand also collected two medal race victories with both Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie in the women’s 470 and Andy Maloney in the Laser finishing on a high note.

Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have once again secured 49er gold before starting the medal race, this time at 2016 Sailing World Cup Hyeres in France.  Another six New Zealand crews will sail in tomorrow’s medal races on the final day of the regatta.
