Light and fickle winds in Hyeres, France made for tough racing and changing fortunes on day three of the 2016 Sailing World Cup Hyeres, where a fifteen strong team of New Zealand crews are competing. 

Murrays Bay Sailing Club (MBSC) hosted the Windsurfing Nationals over ANZAC weekend. 34 Sailors raced in the RS:X, Techno,  Kona and Raceboard classes. It is the first time in recent history that centreboard windsurfers had sailed in one regatta.

At the close of day two 2016 Sailing World Cup Hyeres the NZL Sailing Team are in the top two in three events, with a total of nine kiwi crews placed within the top ten.

While day one produced top end conditions, with capsizes, rig and boat damage across the fleets, today things turned around and the sailors faced the challenge of a no wind delay, followed by a shifty building breeze.

The NZL Sailing Team has made a strong start at 2016 Sailing World Cup Hyeres Regatta holding the early lead in three of the ten Olympic class events being contested in France including the Finn, 49er and women’s 470. Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie, and Josh Junior all out-performed their rivals today and sit atop their respective leader boards after day one of the five day regatta.

Our talented young sailors have been selected to represent New Zealand in the Optimist sailing events overseas.

A squad of 26 of New Zealand's strongest Optimist sailors were selected based on results from the NZ Optimist Nationals held in Kohimarama over Easter, and their national ranking from the season ranking regattas.

The Laser Radial wrapped up in Mexico where New Zealand’s Sara Winther finished 11th overall. A total of 71 boats competed and 13 races were completed over seven days of racing.

After 10 races on the Waitemata Harbour for the annual Maersk Line 18' Skiff ANZAC Championship, Yamaha has come out as the clear winner.

The 2016 Starling National Championships are on now at the Naval Point Club Lyttelton, running from April 17-21.

Just one day of competition remains at the 2016 Women’s Laser Radial World Championships on now in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico where three New Zealand representatives are competing for the world crown in the Olympic single-handed women’s class.
