On Saturday 13 February Wellington Ocean Sports together with Armstrong Prestige ran a fun family open day as part of the Yachting New Zealand Volvo Sailing and Boating Week. Perfect weather greeted the 162 participants who undertook a have a go session in either sailing, kayaking, windsurfing or stand up paddleboard.

Queen Charlotte Yacht Club’s Open Day on Saturday 13th February, which was scheduled in conjunction with 2016 Volvo Sailing and Boating Week, started out with light winds and plenty of sunshine.

Olivia Mackay and Micah Wilkinson are New Zealand’s up and coming crew in the Olympic Nacra 17 class and are supported through the Yachting New Zealand Aon Fast Track Squad. They just wrapped up the 2016 Nacra World Championships in Clearwater, Florida in a hot fleet of the world’s best many of whom will sail at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games this August.

New Zealand sits atop both the 49er and 49erFX leader board at the end of day four of the 2016 49er and 49erFX World Championships on now in Clearwater, Florida.

Peter Burling and Blair Tuke sailed well again today to now lead by 28 points.

Meanwhile Alex Maloney and Molly Meech have climbed into the overall lead in the women’s fleet with two days of competition to run.

Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have stamped a mark of dominance over their rivals on day three of the 2016 49er World Championships in Clearwater Florida, where the Olympic men’s skiff, women’s skiff and mixed multihull are vying for their 2016 world titles. In the 49erFX Alex Maloney and Molly Meech had a solid day to lie 6th overall, while in the Nacra 17 Gemma Jones and Jason Saunders have lifted to 18th.

Treacherous in Clearwater; Nacras sail four and FX get underway

Harsh conditions prevailed on day two of the 2016 49er, 49erFX and Nacra World Championships on now in Clearwater, Florida where strong breeze and choppy seas caused further disruption to the schedule. The Nacra fleet managed four races, but the 49erFX completed just one to open their Championship, while the 49er fleet featuring Peter Burling and Blair Tuke did not complete any racing today.
