2015 Rio Test Event: Gold, Bronze for Team Jolly and five top fives

Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie have won bronze in the Women’s 470 at 2015 Rio Test Event today adding another medal to the gold secured by Peter Burling and Blair Tuke in the 49er class yesterday.

Another two top five finishes were added to the New Zealand results today with Josh Junior in the Finn class, and Gemma Jones and Jason Saunders in the Nacra 17 both finishing 5th overall.

One year out from the Olympic Games, Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have won the Gold medal at 2015 Rio Test Event easily securing victory with a 4th in today’s 49er medal race.

New Zealand’s 49erFX crew of Alexandra Maloney and Molly Meech have finished just outside the medals in 4th overall, while tomorrow Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie will go into the Women’s 470 medal race lying 3rd overall.

It was another long day on day five of 2015 Rio Test Event with Guanabara Bay beset with similar light conditions to yesterday.

It was a mixed bag for the NZL Sailing Team crews that did sail in the challenging conditions. Going into day six of the eight day regatta, six of the seven kiwi crews are within the top ten of their fleet.

A lack of wind in the 2016 Olympic city hampered racing today on what was day four of the 2015 Rio Test Event for Olympic class sailing.

The only kiwi crews to complete racing today were 49erFX pair, Alexandra Maloney and Molly Meech who are now lying 5th overall, and Andy Maloney (pictured above) in the Laser, who has lifted to 10th.

2015 Rio Test Event rolled into day three today in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have taken the overall lead and five New Zealand crews are now placed within the top seven in their class.

The day brought more tricky conditions with light winds - too light for any racing on the three outer course areas. All fleets completed at least one race, with the 49ers sailing four.

The weekend of 22-23 August is worth marking on your calendar. The IOM South Island Championship is being held in your area. The Radio Yacht Squadron Nelson has done a great job in organising this event, and will host the event at Easton’s Pond, on the Coastal Highway (between Tasman and Motueka about 6.5 kms from Motueka).

It was a big day at 2015 Rio Test Event on now in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with racing in all ten Olympic events being contested this week.

New Zealand has the early lead in the Nacra 17 class after Gemma Jones and Jason Saunders started the regatta with a couple of great races. 49erFX crew Alexandra Maloney and Molly Meech had a similar day with two excellent results from their three races to hold 2nd overall, while in the 49er Peter Burling and Blair Tuke are in 3rd overall.

Racing is underway at 2015 Rio Test Event, the highly anticipated Olympic dress rehearsal regatta being sailed over eight days in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

With staggered start dates for the different events spread across two days, Andy Maloney, New Zealand’s Laser representative, was the only kiwi to go racing today and he has made a solid start to the regatta.
