It is Awards season and New Zealand’s yachties have been scooping the annual regional prize-giving celebrations around the country.
Most recently yachting came under the spotlight again at the 2012 Sport Auckland Awards and the 2012 Northland Sports Awards.
Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie, still fresh from being named Orbit Corporate Travel Sailor of the Year for 2012, were named Orix Sports Team of the Year at the Sport Auckland Sporting Excellence Awards held last Thursday at Alexandra Park in Auckland, also taking out the Overall Supreme Award over 23 other category finalists.
They weren’t the only Auckland yachties to be recognised on the night with Laser Radial sailor Andrew McKenzie being named The University of Auckland Junior Sportsman of the Year.
Meanwhile Olympic silver medallist, Blair Tuke has won the Northland Sportsperson of the Year Award, announced and awarded at the Konica Minolta Northland Sports Awards held at Whangarei's ASB Stadium last Friday night.
