On Saturday the 26th April 2014 at 2pm, at the Onerahi Yacht Club Clubrooms, Beach Rd, Onerahi, we will be celebrating the Whangarei to Noumea Yacht Race, from the inaugural event on the 18th April 1964 through the races of 1967, 1971, 1975, 1978, 1980, 1982 and 1984.
This is an informal, Open Invitation afternoon which will include afternoon tea, photo collections, newspaper items, memorabilia, etc and of course a whole lot of shipmates to reminisce with. There will be very brief formalities and the bar will be open (But please note, cash only, no eftpos). The afternoon can be as short or as long as you wish to make it.
We are not contacting anyone direct, that is just not practical, so we need you to spread the word to anyone you know that participated in this race and might be interested, but please also pass on our contacts below, preferably my email address.
PHOTOS are something we would dearly love to have lots of on the day but they are spread ‘out there’ amongst individuals. If you have or know of race photos – people and yachts – we are very keen to have them for display, however we need them now, not on the day.
We truly understand that photos are precious and personal so we would value them accordingly. We would copy your photos, prints or slides (yes, we can scan slides too), and immediately return your photos. However in order for us to prepare our displays we do need the photos as soon as possible. They should be sent to OYC PO Box 1131, Whangarei, with clear return address instructions and we will return them to you promptly.
Alternatively you could send a printed or electronic High Resolution copy to us.
RSVP: Entry for the afternoon is free but we would appreciate an RSVP to help us cater to the numbers attending.
