Wellington's 24 Hour Endurance Race around the corner

Issue date

Entries are still open for the second 24-Hour Endurance Yacht Race 2018 on Wellington Harbour starting on March 3, when sailors will endeavour to cover as much distance as possible when the fleet departs at noon on the Saturday.

Last year 18 boats of different sizes took part in the inaugural race. Ex-Tension, a Davidson 36, won on handicap in the light conditions with the Ross 930 Testarossa sailing the greatest distance overall of 102 nautical miles. To watch highlights of this year's race, see here.

It's open to all keelboats Cat 5 or above or trailer yachts over 20 feet in length (Cat B) and each yacht needs to have a minimum of four crew with two on deck at any one time.

Please go to www.lbyc.org.nz for an entry form and notice of race. A skipper's briefing will be held at the Lowry Bay Yacht Club on Wednesday, February 21 at 7.30pm when Sailing Instructions will be issued and discussed.

Laura Dekker, the youngest sailor to circumnavigate the world solo when she did it at the age of 14, will be guest speaker at Lowry Bay's club night on the eve of the 24-Hour Endurance Yacht Race on March 2.
