The new fleet of Elliott 6 Sport yachts for The Wellington Youth Sailing Trust were officially launched at the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club earlier this month.
The new yachts replace the scheme’s original fleet of Elliott 6 yachts, purchased for the RPNYC youth development scheme in the early 1990s.
The official launching, hosted by the youth sailors at the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club featured food, sun and invitational races as the trustees, sponsors, parents, alumni and volunteers got into the spirit of the day.
Members of the scheme train regularly under the guidance of coach Ben Caundle and visiting coaches. Several teams representing the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club regularly feature at international youth match racing events.
The Elliott 6 Sport is an allrounder with excellent performance on all points of sail and is ideally suited to be sailed by a crew of three with optimal crew weight of 205kg. The yachts provide exciting, safe sailing with all sail handling systems being practical and easy to use. The yachts feature all carbon spars and the bow pole is retractable allowing for a spinnaker option if required.
