31 sailors turned out for this year’s Wellington Optisail hosted recently by the Titahi Bay Boating Club.
A cool southerly greeted the young sailors on the first day of the three day live in sailing camp.
“After sailing in a fresh breeze in the morning it was decided to do some land based activities in the afternoon as we took the beach trolleys apart lashed a rigged Opti to the trolley and went land yachting at the local park,” says Wayne Holdt, Yachting New Zealand Regional Support Officer.
“Day two saw less breeze and a destination sail out the inlet to Porirua estuary and around to Shelly Bay opposite Plimmerton where we were able to entertain the sailors with a few games, relays and more food. That evening saw the night sail which is always a highlight.”
Day three was a typical Wellington day with lots of sunshine and a lovely 10 knot northerly, perfect for some sailing drills and more games in the boats.
"Thanks to John and Hilary Goodman and the helpers from Titahi Bay Boating Club and also to the other Wellington clubs members who helped with feeding out, coaching, Ribs etc,” says Holdt.
