A lack of boats available in the region has promopted the Waimakariri Sailing Club to host the first annual Canterbury Sailing Boat Swap Meet on August 26 (11am-5pm).
The event is a joint venture by the learn to sail and coaching Canterbury group as well as the Waimakariri Sailing Club that is looking after learn to sail and club growth here in the area.
"Unfortunately, there are very few boats available for new members to purchase so we are having a drive to get unused boats out of sheds and back onto the water," Waimakariri vice commodore Sam Jones said.
"Although Waimakariri Sailing Club is hosting this event this time, our plan is to revise how the event went, change what didn't work and then have other clubs hosting it in the future in order to introduce more members to all clubs."
Organisers are looking for anything, whether it's boats, boat parts, wetsuits, trailers, trolleys, lifejackets, sails, kayaks or paddle boards. They will create a register of boats, buyers and sellers with names and numbers and help broker deals.
