Kiwi sailors Dave Swete and Ryan Houston have been selected to join the crew of Team Alvimedica for the 12th edition of the Volvo Ocean Race.
Team Alvimedica is a combined US and Turkish-sponsored boat with a young crew (sailors in their 20’s and early 30’s) from the USA, Italy, and New Zealand, with veteran Australian Will Oxley as navigator. There is one more gap to fill in the crew prior to the opening event of the Volvo Ocean Race: the In-Port race in Alicante on 4 October.
Swete and Houston have sailed in the Volvo Ocean Race before, both in the 2011-12 event, and Houston also involved in the 2008-09 race.
Auckland will put on a true Kiwi welcome for Swete, Houston and Team Alvimedica in February 2015.
