VNSBD at Waimakariri

Issue date

With earthquake repairs only completed days in advance of Volvo National Sailing & Boating Day the team at Waimakariri Sailing & Powerboat Club pulled out all the stops to get on board with the nationwide initiative and open the Club on Sunday February 16th.

Regional Support Officer Kate Spackman was at Waimakariri Sailing & Powerboat Club and describes this picture she took on Sunday; “Members line up on the Club balcony with Club yachts lined up ready to take people out on the water and you can see the new boat storage underneath the Club house.”

“The club has been raised up 40cm to prevent the boat storage area becoming flooded. The ramp into the storage area from the launching ramp will be paid by the funding from the Christchurch Earthquake Fund.”

Waimakariri Sailing & Powerboat Club member Mike James takes visitor William Masters out sailing. William’s mother and family are past members of the Club who took this opportunity to get along and see what’s on offer for 2014.
