Mother's Day is apporoaching so why not treat mum to a weekend sailing with a son or daughter on Steinlager 2, the boat Sir Peter Blake won the round-the-world race with?
The experience is run by the New Zealand Sailing Trust and departs Auckland at 9am on June 2 and includes two full days of sailing as well as sleeping overnight onboard Steinlager 2.
It will be an interactive weekend as you learn to sail and live on board Steinlager 2. All participants will be given the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of sailing Steinlager 2, on the helm, grinding, navigating and journey planning. There might also be an opportunity to sail into the evening and it's common to be accompanied by a dolphin or two.
The weekend concludes back in Auckland’s Viaduct Marina at 5pm on June 3 and follows on from a successful father and son/daughter weekend, also on Steinlager 2.
The weekend costs $322 per person and includes all meals and snacks for the two days, wet weather clothing should you need to borrow some, a life jacket and a harness if required. There will be three professional crew on board who will teach you all you need to know about sailing on Steinlager 2, so no sailing experience is required.
As this is the racing vessel, sleeping areas are down each side of the vessel and pipe bunks are provided - the same bunks used by some of New Zealand's most famous sailors while racing around the world. Spaces are limited to 24 and sons and daughters must be over 13 years to participate.
