Entries for the PIC Coastal Classic close on October 5 and organisers are hopeful of meeting their target of 200 boats for the famous race.
The Coastal Classic from Auckland to Russell in the Bay of Islands is held annually over Labour Weekend and marks the start of the summer sailing season. This year the event, which is the 36th edition, will start from Auckland’s Devonport Wharf on October 19.
Last year, Frank Racing pipped Beau Geste by eight minutes in 2017 to claim line honours for the seventh time in the last eight years but it was only one talking point from a successful event.
Organisers are hoping to lift the number of starters from 150 to 200, which was common in years gone by, and are more than 20 boats up on this time last year with the deadline for entries approaching.
Yachting New Zealand have put together a guide to the category 3 safety inspection, as a basic overview for participants preparing for the PIC Coastal Classic, and many will find a run-down on how the PHRF handicapping system works useful.
Complete your race entry by submitting all your crew member details through Top Yacht before October 5 and be in to win a matching set of Zhikdry LT short sleeve tops, custom branded with your boat name AND crew surnames, to the value of $1000.
