It paid to start the Jack Tar Auckland Regatta well and Temptation did that better than their Division A rivals to take out the title on PHRF.
Saturday provided great conditions with 15-20 knots but the breeze was conspicuous by its absence on the second day when no racing was possible.
It was a shame because many of the seven divisions were well set up after an action-packed day of racing on Saturday.
Temptation won two of the four races in Division A, including the final race of the day which was a harbour course home to finish. The Temptation crew (Royal Akarana Yacht Club) faced good competition, particularly from Mayhem, but Harry Dodson's crew dropped from second to sixth overall after losing a protest from race three.
It elevated Brian Petersen's Ran Tan II (Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron) to second, with Miss Scarlett (Royal Akarana) third.
Steve Purton's Icebreaker (RNZYS) dominated Division B, winning all four races but their result in the harbour race was adjusted on PHRF and the win handed to Anarchy. Gust missed that race after snapping their mast on the second race of the day.
That was the worst mishap among the nearly 50 boats. A number of the Sports Boats suffered wipeouts and some of the multihulls struggled with the conditions with only two boats completing all four races.
The most dominant performance was achieved by International Paints in the PKC Elliott 7s, with Tony Dalbeth-Hudson's team winning all seven races.
