The Gold medal and 2015 Women’s 470 Open European Championship crown are ‘in the bag’ for NZL Sailing Team’s Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie.
The regatta, being sailed in Arhus, Denmark is set to conclude tomorrow after six days of competition, but the kiwis are already assured of overall victory with an unassailable points lead.
With no wind and no racing today and only the medal race to go Team Jolly plan to enjoy tomorrow knowing that simply taking part is all that’s required.
“Today's lack of racing action takes us straight into the medal race tomorrow, and as we hold a 24 point lead, we have pretty much already won!”
“Rather nice for a change... So we are looking forward to having some fun in the medal race tomorrow, with the title of Open European Champions already in the bag! Finally! We also realised this is one of the few regattas we actually haven't won yet!”
The lack of wind had implications for men’s team Paul Snow-Hansen and Daniel Willcox. Unable to use today to break back into the top ten they wrap up the regatta in 17th overall.
Aon Fast Track sailors Sam Barnett and Zak Merton end the series 24th in the silver fleet.
Elsewhere New Zealand’s top Laser sailors are in Kingston, Canada where the 2015 Laser World Championships are underway with day two of competition just wrapping up.
After day one Andy Maloney was the best placed of the five New Zealand representatives lying 7th overall. Today’s results will be published here when available.
