Sits vacant - YNZ coach development manager

Issue date

It’s been said that ‘a good coach can change a game, a great coach can change a life’ which is why developing good coaches is so important.

Yachting New Zealand are looking for a coach development manager responsible for leading the development and implementation of our coaching pathway. The successful applicant will lead a team of coach developers from around the country, with a primary focus on entry-to-sport coaching and instructing through to race coaching at a national level using a range of formal and non-formal learning opportunities. They will assess and mentor other coaches, be involved in programme design, evaluation and course facilitation as well as encouraging personal development. There is also an opportunity for the coach development manager to provide some administrative support for high performance coach development.

There are many varied coaching philosophies available so it will be up to the coach development manager to filter through these and draw on the knowledge and input of more experienced coaches. They will encourage all coaches to take responsibility for their ongoing development, model best practice, portray a growth mindset and demonstrate a desire for personal improvement. In essence, the coach development manager will enable coaches to become ‘learning coaches’ and improve their knowledge and skills to provide positive and effective sport experiences for all participants.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Yachting New Zealand’s coaching pathway
  • Experience in education and development processes
  • Have a modern, progressive approach to learning and development
  • Experience in junior and youth development, youth engagement or working with young people
  • Can meet strict timelines and manage multiple, complex projects
  • Strong IT, database management and technology skills
  • A proven ability to develop and build strong professional relationships and work with others
  • Will be able to clearly illustrate the impact they have had in developing coaches and coaching programmes
  • A passion for sailing
  • A strong desire to contribute significantly to the growth of coaches
  • Be a clear and precise communicator

This is a part-time role (24 hours a week) based at Yachting New Zealand’s Auckland headquarters. There will be some travel within New Zealand.

Please note all applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you. Please send a CV and cover letter to raynor@yachtingnz.org.nz by July 17th.
