Have you ever thought about umpiring?
The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and Yachting New Zealand are providing you with an opportunity to see what match racing umpiring is all about, learn some of the required skills and ride along with top umpires in the game.
As part of the NESPRESSO Youth International Match Racing Cup (February 16-19), you will be able to attend a match racing umpire clinic run by Australian Ben Fels and then ride along with the event umpires to observe them during the regatta.
The clinic is unique. From a rules perspective it will be focusing on transitioning judges and team race umpires to match racing from a rules and positioning perspective. It will also cover the roles, culture, interactions and philosophies for match racing.
You will need to have a reasonable knowledge of the rules and preferably some experience in match racing to make the most of the experience.
The clinic will be held on Wednesday, February 15 from noon until 5.30pm.
