The ISAF Sailing World Championships is the principal qualification event for the Olympic Sailing Competition. Only the events and equipment included in the Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition are included in the programme of the Championships.
Santander, Spain will host the fourth edition of the ISAF Worlds out of the Prince Felipe High Performance Sailing Centre (CEAR), a fully equipped facility that is home to the Spanish Olympic Sailing Team, and the Royal Yacht Club of Santander. Both venues feature excellent facilities for sailors, closeness to the city and excellent public access.
One of the main hallmarks of the city of Santander is its Bay, which is considered to be one of "the most beautiful bays in the world" and the most important on the Bay of Biscay. The impressive mountains and haven formed by the waters in its interior offer some of the most characteristic and beautiful views of Santander.
