Kupe is for sale!
This character workboat with attitude and history is in mint condition and now ready for a new owner. She’s the Perfect yacht club support vessel, for mark-laying, race escort and towing.
All you need to know about Kupe…
- 5.5m (18’) diesel launch (three-cylinder Lister Petter LPW3)
- Part of the Classic Yacht Charitable Trust fleet
- Currently berthed at Auckland’s Voyager National Maritime Museum
- Built in 1962 by the then Auckland Harbour Board (AHB) workshops, “for cartography and routine sounding”
- Featured in the construction of the Auckland Harbour Bridge and in the development and operation of the Westhaven Marina.
- Underwent a complete restoration in 2007, by Wooden Boat Workshop cabinet maker Simon Ventura. In a review of that restoration, Boating New Zealand magazine said: “The result of Ventura’s restoration is a launch better finished than when she was new… there’s no denying that Kupe is as pretty and jaunty a launch as you’ll find anywhere”
