Both Wellington's Seaview Marina and Evans Bay Yacht & Motor Boat Club continue to Buzz with Sailability Wellington's ongoing activity; Annabelle Tye gives us the full update:
Sailability Wellington is continuing to operate at two locations; and Seaview Marina on Tuesdays still proves to be most poplar with approximately 25-30 sailors coming each week. It has been exciting recently to have several of our sailors there to sail solo for their first time in an Access 2.3. Amongst the sailors at Seaview are several groups from local schools.
We sail at Evans Bay on Fridays and Sundays but unfortunately it has been on these days for quite some time that the famous Wellington NW gales have chosen to blow. We have been able to run a few days from time to time though.
The Race Squad self funded a development/ racing skills weekend with YNZ Paralympic Coach Rob Hielkema in November and although it was blowing 30-35 knots on the Saturday, we still got out on the water and completed several hours training. We sailed on Sunday also, despite the rain with everyone having an awesome weekend of training and developing skills further. The priority became staying in the boat in some fairly rugged weather. Three Access Libertys and two 303's took part.
There won't be much sailing happening at Sailability Wellington until February now, with some of our sailors looking forward to joining others in Auckland for the Kiwi Cup/National Championships.
As with all groups the sailors want to send a huge thank you to all our volunteers without whom we simply couldn't do what we do.
