Buzios, Brazil is hosting the 2013 RS:X World Championships and the regatta is heading into the business end with just one day of competition remaining featuring the top ten medal races.
Both kiwi representatives, JP Tobin in the Men’s fleet and Natalia Kosinska in the Women’s have missed the cut for the medal race – Natalia by the narrowest of margins. After ten races she looks to have finished 11th overall just three points away from making her first World Champs medal race.
Coach Dave Robertson in Brazil has this to say: “Races have been very close and she has been in some top places after the first laps.”
“A lack of racing in this past year however is showing with a lack of execution at critical moments of the race. She has been starting well and is sailing with great speed.”
Israel’s Lee-El Korsiz has dominated the Women’s fleet and heads into the medal race with a massive 21 point lead.
JP Tobin is in 17th in the Men’s fleet after ten races the possibility for improvement on that dependant on whether organisers run one final race for those who did not make the top ten medal race.
GBR’s Nick Dempsey and reigning Olympic champ Dorian van Rijsselberge are battling it out at the top of the board for the 2013 World title.
