Robbie McCutcheon, from the Wakatere Boating Club, has added victory in the 2016 Tauranga Cup to go with his Tanner Cup win and take the sought after double-title.
After two hours of paddling, card-playing, swimming and sun umbrellas, a light North Easterly appeared on Friday 15th January and the final day of racing for the 2016 Tauranga Cup got under way - races eight, nine and ten.
Race Officer Paddy kept the short T2 races, and brought out the U flag to try and get all three in before the 1530 cut off.
Robbie McCutcheon started the day with a handy six point lead from James Sheldon and Caleb Armit. But anything could happen with another drop to come into play after race nine.
Campbell Stanton won race eight and Oliver Cowley found his true form to win races nine and ten.
But it was Robbie McCutcheon from Wakatere Boating Club, with a worst series placing of 11th that had the consistency at the front end of the fleet to easily take the Tauranga Cup with a race to spare.
Caleb Armit (Murrays Bay Sailing Club) sailed an awesome regatta, especially with an excellent second day, to give him the Memorial Cup for second overall.
Campbell Stanton (RNZYS) finished equal on points with Caleb, but places third on countback, winning the Carter Cup.
Thank you to all the team at Bay of Islands Yacht Club for a fabulous week in sunny Northland.
