The Richmond Yacht Club's Friday Night Special fun races get underway next month and run through until the end of March.
The series is intended to provide an opportunity for people who have little or no sailing experience to race on keelboats around the buoys in the Waitemata Harbour in a low-key environment. Experienced sailors looking to get more sailing in or wish to try out a number of new boats are also encouraged to join.
Sailors are allocated to a different boat for each race, which can range in size from 26ft to 44ft. A social evening follows in the Richmond Yacht Club's clubrooms with the bar open and meals available. The series is great for networking, and we encourage crew members to let skippers know if they are available to crew for races outside of the Friday Night Special series.
To participate, a candidate must take out a crew membership with Richmond and pay an entry fee for the race series.
See richmondyc.org.nz/racing/info/friday-night-special/ for more information or to see the schedule, or email info@richmondyc.org.nz.
An introductory evening will be held on October 6, when individuals will have a chance to find out what is expected, what to wear, how to access the marina and ask questions. Racing begins the following Friday and continues until March 23.
