Did you know that when taking part in overseas regattas, there is usually a requirement from the race committee to have Marine Third Party Liability Insurance extended for racing in place?
Despite having traveled to regattas in the USA, Australia and France in recent years, this was news to the Kiwi contingent who were due to commence the European 18ft Skiff Champs at Lake Garda on June 29th (CET)
Just one day before the first races were scheduled to start, the sailors were in touch with YNZ’s Regional Support Officer Hamish Hey (a fellow skiff sailor) who immediately put them in touch with Aon’s Brent Mullan – at 8:45 pm on Monday 30th June (NZT).
Within an hour, Brent's colleague Campbell Welson had set up the required cover for the Kiwi team, with the final paperwork and policy documents forwarded to the Italian race organizers the following morning. The speed and ease of setting up this policy with Aon was impressive.
“We owe a big THANKS to Brent Mullan and Campbell Welson of Aon New Zealand for a job well done” says Hamish Hey, “and a reminder to all those travelling overseas to compete to check the event Notice of Race for the Public Liability and Third Party, insurance requirements well before the regatta starts.”
Aon New Zealand, the country’s largest insurance broker, became a major sponsor of YNZ earlier in 2014, and already many clubs and racing sailors are benefiting from increased cover and reduced premiums.
