Pleasant Point Yacht Club in Canterbury is pleased to report on the progress being made towards the construction of a new ramp for the Club.
Contractor for the project, Fulton Hogan is due to start on excavation for the new ramp on the 1st of July.
On Wednesday 11th June Alastair Burgess (Commodore) and Nigel Humphreys (Publicity Officer) met on site with Michael Fulton and William MacManus (Fulton Hogan's Project Manager) to peg out the general area and discuss the project.
“There are just a few last loose ends on the documentation to tidy up and it will be all go on the 1st of July,” says Nigel Humphreys.
“As part of the building process, we are required to have an Archaeologist on site at the time of excavation in case something is unearthed in the excavation.
“The work will mostly revolve around the tides as we need to avoid disturbing the sea bed when the water is in.”
This project would not have been possible without the funds that the Club received from the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust.
Pleasant Point Yacht Club is one of six clubs that successfully applied through the Canterbury Yachting Association to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust for funds to build or repair ramps.
The new ramp will be two lanes wide and stretch 24 metres onto the estuary bed. It will allow the Club to separate hand launched dinghies from trailer yachts and rescue boats, thereby creating a safer launching environment for all of the Club’s sailors.
