Prize Money up for grabs at Oceanbridge Sail Auckland

Oceanbridge Sail Auckland gets underway on Thursday 26 February and to date there are 177 boats who will line up to take on the four day event.

The international event has attracted entries from as far away as Finland with representatives also attending from Germany, Switzerland, USA, Brazil, Ireland, Denmark, Netherlands, China, Singapore, Cook Island, Canada, Australia and Russia

Oceanbridge Sail Auckland is delighted to announce a package of prizes worth nearly $15,000 that will see the top performers in Youth and Paralympic classes and two lucky volunteers well rewarded. Prizes will be awarded to the top placed New Zealand boat in the classes below, and shall be used toward travel expenses to their next international or pinnacle event:

About 2015 Oceanbridge Sail Auckland

Oceanbridge Sail Auckland 2015 will take place at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club from the 26th February – 1st March 2015.

The NZL Sailing Team are anticipated to feature strongly in what is the biggest Olympic and Paralympic class regatta in New Zealand, and alongside them will be New Zealand’s top developing youth sailors and keen competitors in a range of invited classes such as the OK Dinghy.

All Olympic and Paralympic class boats are invited to take part: The Laser, Laser Radial, Finn, 470 Men, 470 Women, 49er, 49er FX, RS:X 8.5, RS:X 9.5, Nacra 17, Skud 18, 2.4mR and also other classes are encouraged: the OK Dinghy, 29er, 420, Liberty, Hansa 303, Kiteboards and Flying 15.

Over four days of racing 11-15 races will take place for each fleet, and the format for all classes will be fleet racing with no medal race. All racing will take place in the Waitemata Harbour, in the surrounds of Rangitoto Island, North Head, Mechanics Bay and Browns Island.

Fine Print for the Travel Prize Money

There must be at least two eligible boats competing in each division for that class to be awarded travel prize money. The Travel Prize Money is to be put toward the recipient’s next pinnacle international regatta.  Youth is defined as: Under 19 as of the 31st of December in the year of the event. To be eligible for the Youth prizes, sailors must be under the age of 19 on the 31st of December 2015. The prizes are available to New Zealand sailors only and ‘Pinnacle international regatta’ must be agreed with Yachting New Zealand’s Talent Development Manager. These Travel Prizes were generously donated by: Harken, Southern Spars, Oceanbridge, Futon, Gulf Harbour, Mackay Boats, Kiwi Yachting, Healthzone Physiotherapy, Aarque, Tawera Group and Walker Wayland.
