Yachting New Zealand is sad to report that Life Member Peter Cornes has passed away.
Peter was a proud member of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron whose unique contribution to the sport will be sadly missed.
“Peter was an incredibly generous man and his contribution to the sport of yachting in New Zealand was massive,” says David Abercrombie, Yachting New Zealand Chief Executive.
“Getting in behind sailors, campaigns and boats, Peter’s support was across all levels of the sport and stretched from Olympics to Classics.”
“As a private man Peter’s contributions largely happened behind the scenes and went without any fanfare but the impact he had is hard to underestimate.”
