Paralympics Coverage on television – what to expect

Issue date

The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games is about to get underway with sailors Rick Dodson, Chris Sharp and Andrew May representing New Zealand in the Sonar event.

TVNZ and Attitude Pictures will be working on-site in Rio de Janeiro, as the accredited broadcasters of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games for New Zealand which means we can expect to see some great coverage.

Para-Sailing won’t be covered live, but it will be showcased within the TV1 highlights (on-air daily, from 9.30pm NZST), in DUKE highlights (on air daily from 6am-2pm NZST) and results such as medals or placings will be covered in ONE News and other programmes.

That’s because Para-sailing will be one of a few sports supplied to TVNZ and Attitude Pictures as packages of pre-recorded highlights content – this means they will record the competitions, podiums and winner’s interviews, edit, and supply as a produced package to TVNZ and Attitude.

“TVNZ and Attitude are committed to showcasing the results of the whole New Zealand Paralympic Team, so they will be supplementing the live and pre-packaged material supplied by the Rio 2016 Host Broadcaster with material they have shot themselves,” states Paralympics New Zealand.

New Zealand’s sailing entry is in the 3-person keelboat which features 14 teams in total. Their schedule of racing is as follows;

Monday 12 Sep – 2 races
Tuesday 13 Sep – 2 races
Wednesday 14 Sep – 2 races
Thursday 15 Sep – 2 races
Friday 16 Sep – 2 races
Saturday 17 Sep – 1 race
