The Panmure Lagoon Sailing Club have welcomed a number of new children to the club following the success of a recent Volvo Sailing... Have a Go! programme.
The club held an open day last weekend, which was a new calendar event for the club, but they wanted to reach out to the local community who use the Lagoon as a recreation area. It came on the back of a series of successful Have a Go sessions with local schools earlier in the year and the club wanted to extend that experience by offering Optimist training to local children.
The day was an opportunity to change the usual racing and the focus was on getting people out on the water to have an experience of what sailing is like. The day was a success as the next training is now full.
As many as 3700 children were introduced to the fun of sailing through the Volvo Sailing... Have a Go! programme last summer and thousands more will get the opportunity when this summer's programme kicks off in term four.
