Bill Penrose, a Life Member of the Otago Trailer Yacht Squadron and past long serving Secretary passed away on Saturday 18 January 2014.
In 2005 Bill was presented with a Yachting New Zealand Honours Award for his long contribution to yachting in the Otago region, especially in the Trailer Yacht area. Bill sailed on Trailer Yachts for many years and then moved into the area of race officer for many of the OTYS events.
“He was always a helping hand at the main events such as the OTYS Harbour Classic,” notes Graeme Wall, YNZ RSO for the region. “Even in recent years he still made himself available to assist by being at the Port Chalmers Club early to collect race entries for the Harbour Classic.”
“Bill was a true gentleman of our sport and was always able to offer a warm smile and encouraging word. He had remained very active in his retirement up to recently, he was 91 years.”
