Optimist Match Racing at Opua Cruising Club is back. It's the hottest event on the OCC Calendar (as long as the weather is sunny, of course).
Those who remember Opti Match Racing from previous years will know this is an extremely popular event, no doubt thanks to the intoxicating spectacle of these high-speed, white-knuckle sailing machines, piloted by some of the BOI's ultimate sailing athletes in peak physical condition, battling it out for gold against friends and family members alike.
There will be no prisoners. There will be no mercy. Just high-adrenaline, all-action Optimist sailing. And spectating. Lots of spectating.
The OCC Youth Sailing Optimists are finely race-tuned for Wednesday 19th December. This will be an all-comers Optimist Match Racing event off the OCC dock, starting at 4pm for kids, followed by an adults' event.
As a 'One Class - No Handicap' event, the result is entirely in the competitors' hands. Anyone can enter – club members and supporters, men and women, kids and big kids, skippers and crew – anyone. Could you be the top Opti sailor in Opua? Come along on 19th December and find out.
Entry for adults will be $5 with proceeds going to OCC Youth Sailing. Kids sail free. Prizes will be provided by our fantastic sponsors Explore NZ (www.explorenz.co.nz) and Romeyn Woodcrafts (www.tablemats.co.nz).
