Oceania Regional Coaches Course
National Sailing Organisations (NSO’s) are asked to register coaches for this regional course:
- Level 3 coaches, targeted towards the Santander 2014 World Champs Program and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games
- Level 1 & 2 Coaches seeking to gain accreditation to Level 3 certificate
- Coaches seeking to commence a coach career will be considered depending upon the number of certified coaches
Course Objectives
- To develop Sailing in all Oceania Nations
- To deliver a level 3 coaching course suited to classes sailed in Pacific Countries
- To upskill Oceania coach’s to deliver sailors to the Santander 2014 ISAF World Champs and the 2016 Olympic Games.
- To develop Oceania countries coach’s skills thru in-country coach programs
- To utilise equipment, coaches resources and competition to improve our sailors
Details of the Course
- Organised by ISAF & Santander 2014 Organising Committee & OSAF. Hosted by OSAF & Sailing Cook Islands (SCI) in Aitutaki, Cook Islands.
- Supported by ISAF Development & Connect to Sailing Program, OSAF, the Australian Yachting Federation & Yachting NZ.
- Funding supplied by a joint initiative of ISAF, Santander 2014 OC and IOC Olympic Solidarity World Coaches Program, OSAF and Sailing Cook Islands
- Classes supported include Optimist, Laser 4.7, Laser radial, Laser Open, Hobiecat 16, Boardsailing and Kitesurfing
- All OSAF Member NSO’s may register:- American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, FSM, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Norfolk Island, Northern Mariana’s, Palau, PNG, Samoa, Solomon Is, Tahiti, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis & Futuna
Course will cater for:
- A minimum of 8 OSAF countries – up to 24 visiting coaches
- The host country is offered unlimited places
· Course dates are Friday 17 May to Thursday 23 May 2013 inclusive and an option to extend the course into an Aitutaki weekend regatta on the 24th and 25th May is available to participants.
· Sailing events & competitions will be integrated into the coaching program
· Attendance at the Course is free to all Oceania members with the event costs for up to 3 coaches from each Oceania country paid for under this OSAF Coach Program.
· Aitutaki accommodation is provided free to all participants in the Sailing Academy community hostel, including breakfast, lunch & dinner provided by the Organisers
· Bus transport from the Sailing Academy to and from venues is supplied free to Course participants living in the Sailing Academy hostel.
· Hospitality program of events will include (3 special nights), Welcome function, Traditional Island night and Coaches Academy function
· Participating countries are required to arrange and pay the costs of travel from your home country to Rarotonga and return. There are Air New Zealand flights arriving into Rarotonga on Thursday 16th May (from Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne via Auckland), plus a direct flight from Auckland; plus flights by Virgin Australia (from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne via Auckland) and an Air Tahiti flight from Tahiti. All participants are asked to arrive in Rarotonga on Thursday the 16th May 2013. The hosts will arrange your travel on Air Rarotonga to Aitutaki and back to Rarotonga.
· Aitutaki has many other accommodation options that the organising committee can recommend. These range from budget style accommodation at NZD50 share twin per person per day to Resort style accommodation at NZD125 share twin per person per day. If you choose the tourist accommodation options you will be responsible for your own on island accommodation, transport and meal costs.
Technical Information
· Course content will be developed and delivered by ISAF/Santander 2014 Instructors to suit the participants needs and ISAF/Santander strategy
· Coaches and sailors from Pacific Island countries will be assisted to participate in the Santander World Champs program in 2014
· Course will be run so that coach’s experience theory & practical coaching is focused to the Coach’s expectations & the OSAF/ISAF calendar of events
· The course is a level 3 coach program and the merging of new & Level 1 coaches into this course will be facilitated
· Course will include theory and practical on-water coaching sessions
· Coaches will be provided with an ISAF Coach Manual and training materials
· A 4 year coach & sailor program will be developed for OSAF Events & Pacific Games, ISAF World & Youth Championships & Events & the IOC Olympic Games & Youth Olympic Games
· The course will be hosted at the Aitutaki Sailing Academy, utilising their sailing equipment and competition venues
· Sailing Cook Islands will facilitate class sailing competition in conjunction with the Coach course
