Racing for the inaugural Red Bull Youth America’s Cup starts in on Sunday featuring ten teams from eight nations cranking around San Francisco Bay on the AC45s for two 25 minute fleet races a day over four days.
It’s a massive opportunity for the 60 plus sailors taking part to grab the spotlight in front of the global sailing audience as well as the power brokers of America’s Cup syndicates.
“The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup series is a critical step in these young sailors’ development,” says Russell Coutts, four-time winner of the America’s Cup. “If they get to the gym, work hard and learn the skills required to race on these boats, they will have what it takes to transfer onto an America’s Cup class race boat. That’s a fantastic pathway for them to make it.”
The NZL Sailing Team with ETNZ includes Peter Burling, Blair Tuke, Jono Spurdle, Guy Endean, Andy Maloney, Sam Meech and Jason Saunders.
