The NZIODA North Island Champs commenced today in light and shifty conditions for the Open Fleet in New Plymouth.
With over 100 entries the fleet has been split into two and it was with a great deal of skill PRO Gerald Martin completed three races in the qualifying series before the end of the day. As you can imagine the results reflect the tricky conditions and no clear leaders can be established as yet though, all who have finished within the top 10-15 have a chance of taking out the event. Final placings are awaiting protest hearings and as soon as these are published we will update the web sites.
Tomorrow is another qualifying day for the Open Fleet and it is the first day for the Green Fleet, many of who took to the water this afternoon under the guidance of Yachting New Zealand's Kim Ardmore for a solid and fun training session. Sailors will be hoping for a little more wind tomorrow.
