The NZ Sailing Trust was inspired by the adventures of Sir Peter Blake, and his racing teams. The Trust works collaboratively with schools and other charities to deliver youth leadership and development journeys for young New Zealanders. A voyage with the NZ Sailing Trust on one of Sir Peter Blake’s historic Round the World vessels brings to life the values of team work, communication, leadership, courage, determination and respect, essential life skills for inspiring our youth and building confidence and self-belief.
The Trust has an opportunity for a part-time (guaranteed 0.5FTE, more when journeys are booked) Skipper/First Mate to join us in running our programmes. The role will be First Mate to our Head Skipper on single vessel journeys and Skipper on journeys where both vessels are sailing. We currently operate two vessels, Lion New Zealand (80ft NZ Whitbread Maxi) and Steinlager 2 (84ft Ketch).
Core competencies you will require:

NZ Inshore Launch Master Qualification

Experience as a commercial skipper,

Ability to be mechanically minded
-
Experience working with, instructing and relating to people of all ages

Ability to identify risks and put strategies in place to mitigate them for passengers

Appropriate level of medical and physical fitness for carrying out the required work

Minimum of first aid certificate (coastal medic preferred)

Ability to keep timely and accurate records

Good communication, time-keeping and personal presentation.
