North Shore sailors won four of the five classes at last weekend's Girls Regatta at Kohimarama Yacht Club.
(The Starling fleet get under way)
The regatta is one of the only all-girls regattas on the New Zealand calendar and gets bigger with each year. This time around there were 27 in the Optimist green fleet, 24 Opti open entrants, 20 Starlings and two 29ers in good conditions of a 10knot south-westerly.
Greta Pilkington on Murrays Bay dominated the open fleet, winning two of the four races and never finishing outside the top three to finish eight points ahead of Helena Sanderson (Bay of Islands/Kohimarama). Amelia Angus of Kohimarama was third.
Torbay's Michelle Bain battled it out with local sailor Libby Porter for the Auckland women's Laser championships, taking the title by two points. Both finished in the top two in all four races with Bain edging it with three wins.
Samantha Stock (Murrays Bay) showed her class in the Starling fleet by winning all four races, finishing ahead of Lillie Brewer (Wakatere) and Rebecca Hume (Kohimarama).
Emma French and Zelda Ladefoged (Murrays Bay) won the 29er fleet ahead of Crystal Sun and Olivia Hobbs (Kohimarama)
The biggest field was in the green fleet, which was won by Point Chevalier's Catherine Gravitt ahead of Frances Wright (Torbay) and Lydia Boyd (Kohimarama)
This regatta always has a good atmosphere around it and all the competitors get a prize.
