New winners at Hartley 16 national championships

Issue date

Manukau sailors took the top two spots at the 2018 Black Heart Hartley 16 national championships at the Napier Sailing Club with Gareth Insley and Tim Lynch Blosse (sailing Bizarre) winning on countback from defending champions Robin Williams and Mike Insley (Shaking Laundry).

The 52nd national championships were a big success.

Third place went to Simon Holdt and Nathan McArthur (Stratos) from the New Plymouth Yacht Club.

Alan Dawson and Dirch Anderson (Blue Nose) won the handicap ranking and the family trophy went to Rob and Noah Hengst (Windsong).

Light winds for the three days of the regatta saw the 23 boat fleet recording some inconsistent results over the nine-race series and race officer Andrew Kearny and his team did a great job getting the races away.

Thanks to class sponsors Black Heart Rum and North Sails, also to all the regatta sponsors and the Napier Hartley guys who organised the regatta.

Leg 4 of the North Sails Travellers Series is in New Plymouth on February 10-11 and early indications suggest this should be another bumper fleet.

New class life member Hans Hengst.
