Over the winter, Yachting New Zealand and the race officials committee updated the template race documents that organising authorities are able to use.
These updates have taken into account the changes to the Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-20 and converted these templates into simpler and more user-friendly documents.
Template are available for
- Notice of race
- Entry form
- Sailing instructions
- Appendix S supplementary sailing instructions. This template provides a set of supplementary sailing Instructions designed to be used in conjunction with appendix S standard sailing nstructions
It is hoped these templates will be used at all national championship events but they can also be used for club/regional level racing. The aim is to provide standard and consistent race documents for our sailors, as well as to keep them as simple and concise as possible to ensure sailors read them.
The use of appendix S standard sailing instructions (page 136 RRS 2017-2020) is an alternative option for producing sailing instructions and may be used at any event in place of printed sailing instructions. This contains all the generic information that applies to most regattas.
Specific information/details relevant to the event is provided to sailors in the form of supplementary sailing instructions, a 1-2 page document that includes:
- schedule of races, times of first warning signals each day, latest possible warning signal time on last day
- venue information
- courses/marks to be used
- any time limits
- any changes/additions to appendix S instructions
This season will be a trial run to see if the use of appendix S is realistic in the large range of venues and sailing conditions around the country. Any feedback or comments regarding the success or failures in the use of appendix S will be well received.
These templates can be found on the event/race officials resources page of the Yachting New Zealand website.
