New Zealander Neville Crichton has been named a Companion to the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business and yachting.
Neville has a long and impressive yachting background, which all started when he first one the P Class Bay of Plenty Championships in 1957. From there he eventually progressed to big boat sailing, through the Admirals cup, Kenwood cup, World 2 Ton Cup, Sydney to Hobart, Fastnet and the list goes on.
His accomplishments are not limited to just yachting, he is also the founder of Alloy Yachts which has been associated to the strength of the NZ Marine Industry, a car dealer, and a professional racing car driver.
In 2003, Neville was recognized by Yachting New Zealand as ‘Sailor of the year’ based on his accomplishments with Alfa Romeo which won the 2002 Sydney-Hobart and many others.
He was also recognized this year at the 2012 World Super Yacht Awards with the Legacy Award for contributions over many years.
Neville was born in Dunedin, went to Rotorua Boys’ High School, and now lives in Sydney. Yachting New Zealand recognizes and appreciates the invaluable contribution that he has made to the NZ Yachting Community and Marine Industry.
