At the Sport Hawke’s Bay 2012 Sports Awards on the 2nd June, the Napier Sailing Club was awarded the BPX Club Operations of the Year Award and YNZ National Race Officer and Napier Sailing Club member Gerald Martin won the Fastway Post Official of the Year Award.

Both awards were in recognition for the successful Optimist World Championship regatta hosted by the Napier Sailing Club over the Christmas and New Year period. This event attracted 210 sailors from 48 countries and showcased the Club, Hawke’s Bay and New Zealand to the competitors, coaches and many visiting supporters.
In accepting the award on behalf of the Napier Sailing Club, Commodore Marty Weeks thanked the major sponsors, club members and the over 200 volunteers that made the event such a success. Special mention was also made of local club member Adrian Mannering and Optiworlds New Zealand.
In accepting the award for Official of the Year, Gerald Martin praised the efforts of his race management team.
These awards are a great endorsement for the skills and abilities that exist within our team of dedicated officials, members and volunteers. Well done Napier Sailing Club!
