Napier Sailing Club is again running the Boaters and Blazers Chase as a part of the Art Deco Week held annually in Napier. The date is set for Saturday 16th February.
Last year’s inaugural event drew 70 competitors in a wide range of sail boats dating from 1930s dinghies to latest cats and keelers. This year entries include Idle Alongs, a Dragon, a couple of X Class and a Silver Fern all dating pre 1950.
Even the Race Committee boat dates pre 1950 as does the Race Officer! The chase is a Mark Foy event and a team prize is up for competition.
The day will commence at 1100 hrs with Registration and allocation of start times. A light lunch - Tiffin - will be available to all entrants at 1130.
A Mark Foy Chase for Keel and Centre Board yachts - “The Chase” - will sail around the port and along Marine Parade and return with the slowest/oldest competitors away at 1300.
Teams of different yachts will be allocated at Registration and compete for the sponsored 'Mates Race'.
The junior classes will sail long races closer to the West Shore and Bay View coast.
The after Chase function will be a ‘Rum Do’ at the Napier Sailing Club. The traditional sailors tipple 'Dark and Stormy' will be served at very attractive prices.
A “1930s Nautical ” Dinner Dance will be held in the clubrooms at 1930 hrs, with great music to get those toes a 'tapping and splendid Dinner with full waiter service provided by our own young ladies and gentlemen from the junior classes.
