New Zealand's Beth Miller was the first female and second overall in the Pro sail fleet at the RS Tera world championships in Weymouth recently.
The 14-year-old, the daughter of Martin Miller who was a sailmaker with Team New Zealand for the 1988 and 1992 Americas Cups, coped well with the variety of conditions that fluctuated between gentle breezes and strong winds. She took out one of the 12 races and was second twice to establish a healthy margin over the second-placed girl in the pro fleet.
The fifth day of racing was abandoned as heavy rain and wind gusts of 37 knots battered the English coastline.
James Russell was 18th in the 66-strong pro fleet and Jorja Marshall 45th. Alissa Marshall was first girl in the silver fleet and fifth overall.
