Seb Menzies conquered the wild and windy Labour Weekend weather conditions to defend his North Island P-Class championships title being sailed off Maraetai Beach.
The Maraetai Sailing Club hosted the event, which saw 26 youngsters aged 11-15 from as far as Kerikeri in the north to Christchurch in the south compete.
Races were shortened to factor in the conditions, which saw gusts up to 20 knots on the Saturday.
“It was a typical P-Class regatta with lots of capsizes, gear breakages and sailors heading back to shore for repairs then back to the race course,” Maraetai commodore Sean McRae said.
Menzies has forged an impressive list of accomplishments at junior level, having convincingly won the 2017 Optimist national championships as well as all three ranking regattas. He also won last year's North Island P-Class championships and was second in the Auckland championships.

The Maraetai Sailing Club will also host the Auckland P-class championships on November 25-26.
