The Torbay Sailing Club has announced the date for the 2012 Sir Peter Blake Regatta.
1-2 December 2012 will see New Zealand’s largest dinghy fleet converging on Auckland’s North Shore to honour the event’s name sake, Sir Peter Blake.
When Sir Peter Blake was killed at Macapa Brazil on 5 Dec 2001, New Zealand mourned the loss of a national hero. Now, more than ten years later, the memory of Peter Blake sails on in the biggest regatta in New Zealand and the biggest centreboard regatta in the Southern Hemisphere.
Yachting New Zealand’s 2011 President’s award went to the Torbay Sailing Club for the ongoing promotion and development in the interest of yachting through the ongoing management of this event.
The Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta is held annually on the first weekend of December for all Centreboard Classes and all ages. More information will be available on the Blake Regatta website here.
