The RNZYS Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme has hosted the National Youth Training Week since 1989 and is very proud of the great success, sportsmanship and fantastic sailing experience that each participant has enjoyed at our property on Kawau Island. Limited places remain available for teams and for individuals.
This year we are pleased to be hosting two weeks due to the high interest received.
The fleet of ten Elliott 7 Youth Training boats are used which provides and extra challenge for the young sailors with spinnaker and gennakers; poles and prods. Coach during the weeks is Waka Racing Trimmer and YTP Graduate Garth Ellingham under the guidance of YTP Coach Guy Pilkington.
“We also put a current YTP member onboard with each team for the first couple of days to show-them-the-ropes - but they pick it up pretty quick!” comments Pilkington. “We are on the water early, sailing all day in Kawau Bay and then back into Bon Accord Harbour just before dinner. It’s the perfect environment and fantastic to watch each team grow so quickly over the week.”
This is an intensive sail training camp for young sailors from 15 – 19 years of age. The teams are hosted on the Squadron’s Property in Lidgard Bay in LARGE tents with all meals provided.

The fees for the week are $865 (incl gst) per person or $3460 (incl. gst) per yacht club team. This fee includes transportation from the RNZYS clubrooms to Kawau Island, training boats, coaching staff, accommodation at Kawau Island and meals.
