Kiwis well placed at Nespresso Youth International Match Race Cup

Issue date

The quarter-finalists will be found today at the Nespresso Youth International Match Race Cup in Auckland.

Yesterday's first day of racing was delayed by light winds and rain but the wind picked up sufficiently in the late morning for racing.

Three teams were undefeated after the first day of racing: Australians Thomas Grimes (CYCA - 4 wins and 0 losses) and Will Boulden (RFBYC/Alpha Racing - 3 wins & 0 losses) and French skipper Tom Picot (CNC - 3 wins & 0 losses). Boulden is fresh off his win at the RPAYC Harken Youth International Regatta.

New Zealand's Matt Hughes (RNZYS - 4 wins &1 loss) and RPNYC’s Will Eastman (3 wins & 1 loss) were also in good shape.

“[It was] a wet day with some tricky conditions. But once the wind filled in it was great to smash out some races," said race officer Colin Lucas.

Round robin will be completed today, when the top eight teams will be found. The finals will be on Sunday.
