Kiwi sailors bound for Sailing World Cup final in Melbourne

A team of kiwi sailors will be bound for Australia next week, with some already on the ground training as the final event in the 2016 Sailing World Cup in Melbourne beckons. 

The event from 4-11th December will be held at the St Kilda Sailing Precinct and concludes the overall series which began in Melbourne in December 2015. 

Over the past year the Sailing World Cup has visited Miami, Hyeres, Weymouth and Portland, and Qingdao, before returning to Melbourne for it’s final stop.

New Zealand will be represented across seven of the classes including 470 Men, 49er Men, Finn, Laser, Laser Radial, IKA Formula Kite Open, and the Nacra 17. 

Racing begins on Tuesday 6 December. 

Kiwi sailors to watch out for at this event:

470 Men:

  • Markus Somerville and Taylor Balogh
  • Sam Barnett and Zak Merton

49er Men:

  • Nick Egnot-Johnson and Jack Rogers
  • Josh Porebski and Trent Rippey
  • Isaac McHardie and William McKenzie

Finn:

  • Gary Lokum

Laser:

  • Andrew McKenzie
  • Matthew Kempers

Laser Radial:

  • Susannah Pyatt

IKA Formula Kite Open:

  • Sam Bullock

Nacra 17:

  • Olivia Mackay and Micah Wilkinson
