The cover of the July 2014 issue of FINNFARE features Andrew Murdoch (NZL) on his way to securing 10th place in the European Championship in La Rochelle. The event was won by Giles Scott (GBR) who is the 'opening shot' for the magazine, published on Monday 14 July.
This issue includes full reports, results and extensive photos from all events so far this season. The European Championship again showed the strength and depth of the International Finn fleet with 101 entries from 30 countries on the starting line, including many new faces.
A few weeks later Michael Maier (CZE), won his sixth Finn World Masters in Sopot, Poland. This event attracted 235 entries from 25 countries, another example of the continuous growth of the Master fleet.
This issue also covers the ISAF Sailing World Cup event in Palma and Hyeres, as well as the three EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup events in Medemblik, Weymouth and Kiel.
The sailing world lost two of its greatest sailors in the first half of 2014. Hans Fogh and Valentin Mankin both had an inestimable impact of the development of sailing and both had success in the Finn. This issue includes tributes to these sailors from their friends in the class.
There is also a feature on Finn sailing at Rietvlei on the Highveld in South Africa. There are more than 30 Finns sailing there at Pretoria Sailing Club and the feature describes how Finn sailing is developing in this long-standing Finn sailing nation.
Other news includes updates from Denmark, Great Britain, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and USA, as well as a full update and reports from the Finn Class AGM in La Rochelle.
