Judges' Forum ruled a great Success

Issue date

On Saturday 24th September, Yachting New Zealand held the 2016 Judges’ Forum at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron in Auckland.

21 accredited club, national and international judges from across the country attended the forum to discuss a range Judging issues and promulgate best practice.

International Judge Russell Green facilitated the day and enabled all attendees to engage in open discussion and debate. Topics of discussion included the new Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020 (coming into practice in January), the Rio Olympics and protest decisions from the event, as well as redress, rule 69 and protest committee procedures.

It was agreed by all attendees that the day was educational and worthwhile, with many recounting experiences they had on juries at regattas around the world and the way that jury handled similar protests. This sharing of knowledge is the best way to ensure all judges are kept up to speed with rule interpretation and case law.

Thanks to the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron for looking after us so well and to Russell Green for his hard work pulling it all together.

A special thanks to all the judges who made effort to attend and for their continued work in Judging. Yachting in New Zealand would not be possible without them.
