The NZ Sailing Trust have entered Steinlager 2 into February's Auckland to Tauranga Yacht Race and are looking for crew for both the race and the cruising delivery back to Auckland.
Steinlager 2 and the crew last year won this race so are heading back to defend the title when the race gets underway on February 3.
Crew places are available for people keen to experience maxi yacht racing. Racing on Sir Peter Blake’s iconic yacht from Auckland to Tauranga will be a trip of a lifetime, and an opportunity to experience team racing. Participants do not need prior experience but should expect to be completely hands-on and be great team members.
The race starts at 2pm on Saturday, February 3, and will take between 12 to 24 hours to complete depending on the conditions. An experienced crew will be on board Steinlager 2 and will host the journey and provide all safety briefings and sailing expertise. Participants will take part as a full crew member and be expected to work hard to achieve the best possible time.
If you can’t make the race, you can also secure crew positions on board Steinlager 2 for the delivery from Tauranga back to Auckland. The delivery will leave at noon on Sunday, February 4 and arrive back in Auckland on Monday evening.
